You need Glimmer for just about everything in the world of Destiny 2, from purchasing Bounties to changing up the look of your Guardian with Shaders. But you may be wondering? Where does the stuff come from, exactly? Perhaps you have tons of this currency, but you don’t know where you’re actually getting it from, or where to get more of it. Don’t worry: we’ll tell you how to get Glimmer in Destiny 2 so you’re no longer in the dark.

How to get Glimmer in Destiny 2

Truth be told, you mostly get Glimmer from killing things

The enemies in Destiny 2 are there for a reason: so you can put them down using either your bullets or your ultra powerful Space Magic. You can think of Glimmer, then, as your reward for removing bad guys from the universe. Glimmer drops at random intervals from enemies — it’s those little blue cubes you’ll often see spread out on the ground after the dust settles. You’ll earn it at a fairly decent clip by just doing the normal killing, but if you really want to accelerate things, you can use one of these.

This consumable here, called a Rainmaker, can be obtained from the Eververse store. And as the name implies, it… makes it rain. “Precision kills have a chance to create a shower of Glimmer,” which is more than just the standard bit of Glimmer you might otherwise get. So if you’re really hard up for Glimmer, pop one of these, head into a Strike, and start aiming for the head.

You can also purchase Glimmer from Spider

Yes, our old friend Spider is another means for how to get Glimmer in Destiny 2. Glimmer is a currency, after all, so it should come as no surprise that this master trader — found in the Tangled Shore — would be willing to make a deal with you.

You’ll have to check to see what Spider wants in exchange for his Glimmer, as it rotates daily. Sometimes it’ll be one material. Other times it’ll be another.

Finally, simply completing activities will net you some Glimmer from time to time

Activities such as Strikes, Crucible matches, or Gambit matches will drop you some Glimmer after you wrap up an outing. If you really want to be efficient, though, you could combine an activity with enemy combatants — such as Strikes or Gambit — with a popped Rainmaker consumable to really start farming for Glimmer.

In any event, you now know how to get Glimmer in Destiny 2, and how you can do so in the best way possible. Now get out there, make that Glimmer, and don’t forget to tip your Vendors.
